Courtney Williams Fought Chicago Sky Twitter in Moolah’s!
THE TROLLS GOT TROLLED BACK
The Chicago Sky wanted all smoke. The problem is….
…Courtney Williams lit the match.
The Minnesota Lynx stormed into Wintrust Arena for the second time in three nights, erased Saturday’s loss, and walked away with a 91–78 win that felt like a full-blown clapback to Chicago Sky twitter.
“I had a chip on my shoulder for sure,” Courtney said. “All my comments, flooded with ‘you can’t beat Chicago.’ They can’t troll a troll. We had to get our get back. They knew what it was.”
Williams went off for one of her best performances of the year going for18 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocked shots.
Meanwhile Phee? The MVP frontrunner definitely knew what it was.
SHE’S DPOY. SHE’S A PROBLEM. SHE’S YOUR SISTER
Napheesa Collier is so damn good it’s starting to get disrespectful.
Phee once again had another monster game this season as she dropped 29 points on 11 shots. She hit four threes. She made all 11 of her free throws. She also slapped five dimes and three steals on Chicago’s forehead for good measure.
Angel Reese took the matchup personal.
“Phee’s a great player, everybody knows that. She’s also DPOY of the year too… for me to be able to matchup against her… I take it personal… she’s one of the best and to be the best you have to guard the best,” Angel said. “Also being able to have a sister that wants me to get better as well.”
Respect is mutual. So is the violence on the glass.
Minnesota tried to box Reese out of the game. Didn’t matter. Reese still muscled her way to 22 points and 10 rebounds — her ninth straight double-double. As the Lynx tried to bump her off her spots, she found new ones.
“Her aggression and being able to recognize her opportunities on the floor,” Tyler Marsh said, “that’s what makes her special.”
TURNOVERS, FATIGUE, AND FINGER-POINTING
The Sky didn’t fold — but they frayed.
Minnesota forced back-to-back-to-back turnovers in the fourth quarter and turned them into layups like a team of con artists running drills.
Angel Reese took the blame like a vet.
“For me, five turnovers… I got to get that down, that’s unacceptable. I’m definitely going to be messed up about this one because I definitely turned the ball over way too many times again.”
Even in the loss, and amidst the turnovers, Reese displayed her leadership.
“Just trying to stay poised… I know they need me so I try to come up big for them.” She’s also dealing with a new role as Chicago’s part-time point forward. “That’s no excuse. I just have to watch film and be better… I just gotta get the ball to where it needs to get to faster.”
Meanwhile, head coach Tyler Marsh saw where the game slipped. “We didn’t handle the pressure great today… the second half they just played a little bit harder than we did.”
THE CONFIDENCE IS CONTAGIOUS
Angel Reese isn’t making excuses. She’s making statements. And buckets.
“My confidence is through the roof right now… It started off rough but I couldn’t put my head down and complain. It was just me it wasn’t anybody else… when my confidence is up and energy is up it’s contagious to the team.”
She’s young. She’s tired. She doesn’t care. “Suck it up & keep hooping. I’m young… I average 35, 36 mins a game & I guard the best player usually. I gotta get up and not be scared.”
With the win, Minnesota stays at the top of the leaderboard for WNBA standings.
Chicago stays in the mix.
The vibes?
Hectic. Petty. Perfect.
