Dallas Wings Win 2025 WNBA Draft Lottery: A Game-Changing Moment

Favor sometimes is not fair. After reaching the WNBA semifinals less than two years ago and boasting two all-WNBA performers in Satou Sabally, and Arike Ogunbowale, fortune has smiled on the Dallas Wings, as they secured the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

With the draft lottery results announced, it is now assumed that the University of Connecticut superstar point guard Paige Bueckers is the overwhelming favorite to go first overall, sending massive shockwaves of excitement through the league and the Wings organization.

“Bueckers or Bust?”: Dallas Lands at the Top

For the first time in franchise history, the Dallas Wings won the WNBA draft lottery outright, earning the right to pick first in a class loaded with talent. The team’s 45.4% odds, bolstered by a pick swap with the Chicago Sky, proved to be the golden ticket.

Arike Ogunbowale, the Wings’ star guard, couldn’t contain her excitement, sharing on social media:

“I just fell to my knees. THANK YOU LORD!”

Paige Bueckers, who many view as a generational talent, leads the conversation as the top prospect in this upcoming draft. A 6-foot guard from Hopkins, Minnesota, Bueckers’ resume is impeccable and speaks for itself—National Player of the Year, multiple Final Four appearances, and the best part of it all is that she has jaw-dropping efficiency from every spot on the court.

A New Era in Dallas

This No. 1 pick comes at a turning point time for the Wings. After an injury-plagued 9-31 season in 2024, the franchise could either be headed for a rebuild or a championship team. With having players such as Arike Ogunbowale, and her upcoming free agency, as well as Satou Sabally being a free agent now, meanwhile having a mix of promising young players and established veterans.

Curt Miller, the newly appointed GM, is embracing the opportunity with open arms:

“We know what No. 1 draft picks have done to franchises and how they’ve changed the trajectory of teams. This just injects energy and enthusiasm heading into the ’25 season.”

With two new facilities on the horizon and a revamped front office, Dallas is primed for a resurgence.

Bueckers: More Than a Highlight Reel

Paige Bueckers’ career at UConn has been nothing short of extraordinary:

Career Scoring Average: 19.9 PPG (on track to surpass Maya Moore’s program record).

Efficiency: 53% from the field and 43% from three-point range.

Clutch Gene: A key player in multiple Final Four runs.

While Bueckers battled many injuries during her collegiate career, her ability to elevate her team and dominate on the biggest stages remains unparalleled. As UConn’s Geno Auriemma noted:

“Paige is going to be all right wherever she goes.”
