WNBA and WNBPA Kick Off CBA Talks: A Transformational Future in the Making

NEW YORK, Dec. 11, 2024 — Progress is on the horizon for the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and its players as representatives from both the WNBA and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) met in person today to kick off discussions around a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

The meeting marked the beginning of what both sides hope will be a transformational process, focusing on enhancing the league’s future while addressing key concerns for players and the league. Preliminary conversations and constructive dialogue set the stage for continued negotiations.

A Unified Push for Progress

The WNBPA, led by President and CBA Committee Co-Chair Nneka Ogwumike, was well-represented by key leaders, including:

•Kelsey Plum, WNBPA First Vice President

•Elizabeth Williams, WNBPA Secretary

•Napheesa Collier, WNBPA Vice President

•Satou Sabally, CBA Committee Co-Chair

•Dijonai Carrington and Stef Dolson, Player Representatives

•Terri Carmichael Jackson, WNBPA Executive Director

The union’s delegation also included additional staff and advisors, ensuring a wide array of perspectives were present to represent the players’ interests.

On the league’s side, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert joined members of the WNBA Labor Relations Committee, league staff, and advisors to contribute to the discussions.

Both the WNBPA and the league expressed a mutual commitment to crafting a CBA that will not only address immediate concerns but also serve as a catalyst for long-term growth and transformation within the league.
