My All-WNBA Team: Hot Takes & Heated Debate

Alright, folks, it’s that time of the season again. The WNBA is heating up, and you know what that means—time to unleash my All-WNBA team picks. Now, I’ve got a spicy take on this one, so buckle up. So, without further ado, let’s dive into it.

First Team All-WNBA: Let the Debates Begin

Alright, this one’s gonna ruffle some feathers, but here’s my First Team All-WNBA:

Caitlin Clark: Let’s just get this out of the way—she’s the best point guard in the game.

Clark the first rookie in WNBA or NBA history to be ‘Player of the Week’ for three consecutive weeks ⭐️ Caitlin Clark this season: 1st in AST 5th in PTS No player in WNBA history has finished top 10 in PTS while being the outright leader in AST. Caitlin Clark has tied the WNBA record for most career games with 25 PTS & 10 AST. Period. And before y’all come at me, check the stats. She’s the sixth most efficient player in the league as a rookie. Yes, you heard that right. Rookie. She’s a walking bucket and only getting better.

Kahleah Copper: Look, if you don’t hav Copper on your first team, I don’t know what to tell you. She’s been doing work for the Phoenix Mecury and currently she leads them in clutch time scoring. She is a walking bucket, and other words that A’ja Wilson so playfully described her as.

Napheesa Collier: Phee has been dominating all season long, and it’s no surprise she’s a lock for First Team. Her versatility on both ends of the floor is ridiculous, and she’s a cornerstone for her team’s playoff push. Her numbers don’t speak about the incredible value she brings to her team. They trust her and know they can win with her as their leader.

Breanna Stewart: What do you want me to say that hasn’t already been said? Stewie is Stewie. She’s been carrying the Liberty with MVP-caliber performances night in and night out.

A’ja Wilson: Another no-brainer. A’ja’s chasing history with the Aces this season, and she’s playing like she’s on a mission for the greatest player of all time. Dominating both offensively and defensively, Wilson is still that woman.

Second Team All-WNBA: Arike Deserves Better

Now, here’s where it gets tricky, and I know some of y’all are gonna come for me in the comments. My Second Team features Sabrina Ionescu, Arike Ogunbowale, Alyssa Thomas, Nneka Ogwumike, and Jonquel Jones. I know, I know—Arike should be on the First Team, right? Well, here’s why she’s on my Second Team:

Arike Ogunbowale: It’s not about her—Arike has been lights out all season, dropping 22, 4, and 5 on the regular. But here’s the catch—her team didn’t make the playoffs. You can’t be First Team All-WNBA if your squad isn’t competing for a title, right? It’s tough, but hey, the numbers don’t lie, and she’s still one of the top two guards in the league. So, she’s sitting comfortably on my Second Team.

Sabrina Ionescu: This one’s tricky too. Sabrina’s been a triple-double machine, but she’s inconsistent, especially when it comes to shooting efficiency. If she can tighten that up, maybe she moves to First Team. For now, I’ve got her holding it down on Second Team.

What About the Rest? Third Team Maybe?

Now, I know some of y’all are wondering where players like Jackie Young, Kelsey Mitchell, Kelsey Plum, Angel Reese, Chennedy Carter or Skylar Diggins-Smith are. Here’s the deal—you can only fit so many players on the All-WNBA list. If the league added a Third Team (which they should), you’d see more guards getting the recognition they deserve. But for now, this is where the chips fall.

And real quick, let’s address the elephant in the room—why no Skylar Diggins-Smith? Well, she’s had a complicated season, and while she’s undeniably talented, her situation in Phoenix has been… let’s just say, not ideal. Maybe next season we see her return to form and snag one of those top spots.

Why Arike Deserves First Team… But Can’t Have It (Yet)

Let’s circle back to Arike, because I know y’all still have questions. Look, if I was basing this off pure skill, Arike’s in my First Team, no doubt. She’s been putting up numbers, leading the league in steals, and scoring at will. But basketball is about winning, and as much as it pains me to say it, Dallas didn’t get it done this year. If they’d made the playoffs, I’d bump her up without hesitation. But for now, she’s gotta stay on my Second Team.

Final Thoughts: Let the Debates Begin

So that’s my All-WNBA team breakdown. Do y’all agree? Disagree? Who’d I leave off? Let me know in the comments because I’m ready for the debates. And trust me, I’ve got plenty more hot takes where this came from. Until next time, keep hooping, and let’s keep the conversation going.
