Aneesah Morrow is about to help the Connecticut Sun are rebuild from the ground up.

The Sun realized that their former core of Alyssa Thomas, DiJonai Carrington, DeWanna Bonner, and Brionna Jones had run its course. Then they enlisted in their offseason fire sale. After moving on from every core piece, they’re entering a new era.

With the No. 7 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, they might’ve just drafted their future cornerstone: Aneesah Morrow.

At 6’1”, Morrow is a walking double-double.

Since the inception of collegiate womne’s basketball, Morrow has one of the most productive rebounders and scorers college basketball has ever seen. The motor in her game, does not quit or stop running at all.

Coming off a final collegiate season at LSU where she averaged 16.4 points, 9.8 boards, and 2.5 steals per game, Morrow showed she can still eat even when she’s sharing the table with other stars. Her game is already proven that she doesn’t need to be the focal point to dominate.

“It’s hard, especially being undersized, but you have to come in with a certain mindset,” Morrow said. “Sometimes those goals might seem out of reach, but if I fall short, I still could have 25 and 20.”

That mindset? It’s the same one she brings every single game.

Relentless. Ruthless. Ready.

Built for This, Built Different

Morrow’s game is tailor-made for the modern WNBA because of her versatility. At the moment she doesn’t have a defined position, and that’s the point. Morrow will be able to fill in any position on the court and still be effective because of her game. Morrow has the ability to defend multiple spots, bang in the paint, step out for midrange jumpers, and most importantly — she plays bigger than her size. Her competitive nature separates her from most athletes on the court.

“Before every game, I set goals of what I want to accomplish. I try to be dominant from the tip, because I can’t wait until the end of the game to try and make an impact,” she said.

Now, she’s headed to a Sun team where opportunity will be wide open. Whether she starts day one or comes off the bench, she’s going to get real reps — and she knows the work starts now.

“Once I get to market, I’m trying to be a workaholic, honestly,” she said. “Put as much work in as I possibly can.”

Learning from Legends

One of the biggest assets for Morrow in Connecticut? Veteran mentorship.

This offseason the Sun franchise added future Hall of Famer Tina Charles, to their fray. Charles last season was very productive and proved she is who can still bang with the best of them. For a young forward like Morrow, that’s a master class waiting to happen.

“She’s a dog, a double-double machine,” Morrow said about charles. “Being a sponge and learning as much about the league as she knows will be great.”

Morrow knows you don’t just walk into this league and dominate — you learn, you adjust, and then you attack. She’s already coming in with the right mentality: ask questions, put in the work, and absorb the knowledge.

And she’s already locked in on one matchup that’s personal — her former LSU teammate Angel Reese.

“That’s my former teammate. I love her to death, but I know there’s going to be two dogs clashing on the floor,” Morrow smiled. “We’re both going to try and get as many rebounds as we possibly can.”

the Blueprint

Although Morrow has her own game, that is unique in her own right, she’s not afraid of the moment playing under the shoes of Alyssa Thomas. Morrow pointed out that Thomas is someone who she studies.

“AT is undersized, but she holds her own. She doesn’t take no s— from nobody. She can defend almost every position,” Morrow said. “You have to know your scouting report. She’s very productive with that.”

Sounds familiar right? That’s the exact kind of impact Morrow is chasing — gritty, versatile, and undeniable.

With the Sun in rebuild mode, it’s not about how many wins they rack up this year. It’s about building the right foundation. In Aneesah Morrow, they just might have the piece they can build everything else around.
