Angel Reese Shatters Records and Wings’ Hopes in Sky’s Soaring Victory

Angel Reese Dominates in Record-Breaking Game as Sky Soar Over Wings

“Surprise yourself before you surprise others,” Angel Reese echoed her coach Teresa Weatherspoon’s advice after being drafted No. 7 to the Chicago Sky in May.

Fast forward two months, and Reese is rewriting the WNBA rookie record books, achieving her seventh consecutive double-double in a thrilling 83-72 victory against the Dallas Wings at Wintrust Arena.

The “Reese’s Pieces” fanbase erupted as their star forward delivered an electrifying performance with 16 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, nearly clinching a coveted 20/20 game. “It’s a blessing I dropped to seven [straight double-doubles]… with these amazing teammates and coaches,” said Reese. “Having a coach that told me not to worry about the number was crucial.”

The Chicago Sky dominated early, closing the first half on a 16-4 run to lead 42-25. Chennedy Carter was perfect in the first half, scoring 15 of her 19 points, while the Wings struggled, shooting just 28% from the field. Reese’s steal and fast-break layup extended the Sky’s lead to 55-35 in the third quarter.

Despite a late surge from Dallas, with Arike Ogunbowale scoring 17 of her 31 points in the fourth quarter, the Sky maintained their composure.

Kamilla Cardoso, another rookie sensation, contributed nine points, 11 rebounds, and a +15 on the court.“We all had to rebound the ball. Our bigs really took it to heart that we must be on the glass and be on the glass heavy,” said Weatherspoon. The Chicago Sky will look to build on this victory as they prepare for their third matchup against the Indiana Fever, hoping to continue their winning momentum. “It’s helpful for us to grow from and build on. There are a lot of things we have to change. When you’re up, you need to continue to push,” added Weatherspoon.
