Heartbreak in Overtime as Canada Snags the Crown
The 2024 USA 3×3 Women’s AmeriCup Team—featuring Abbey Hsu, Maddy Siegrist, Azurá Stevens, and Brittney Sykes—dominated two of their three knockout round opponents, securing a solid 2-1 record. But their journey to gold ended in a nail-biting overtime showdown against an undefeated Canadian squad.
Fast Start Turns Into a Dogfight
After Sykes drove to the hoop for an early layup, putting the USA up 2-1, Canada quickly flipped the momentum with a run of four consecutive 1-pointers, jumping out to a three-point lead. Azurá Stevens kept the U.S. in the game, breaking a scoring drought with a much-needed 2-pointer, setting the stage for a back-and-forth thriller.
Trading Buckets: The Scoreboard Seesaws
Every time Canada drilled a 2-pointer, the USA answered with timely 1-pointers to stay within striking distance. With just minutes left, Canada pushed ahead 17-15 after converting two clutch free throws and a layup. But Abbey Hsu wasn’t done. She banked in a deep 2-pointer from the top of the key, tying the game at 17 and forcing an electrifying overtime.
Overtime Drama and a Hard-Fought Finish
In the extra period, Canada capitalized on key opportunities, scoring two quick layups to clinch the championship and deny Team USA the title. Sykes led the charge with nine points, followed by Stevens with four, and Hsu with three.
