Odyssey Returns: Sims Rejoins Wings Amidst Injury Crisis

Arlington, TX (June 25, 2024) — The Dallas Wings announced the signing of veteran guard Odyssey Sims to a salary cap hardship contract, necessitated by the recent spate of injuries within the team. Sims returns to the Wings, stepping in after Morgan Bertsch was released from her similar contract on Monday.

Sims rejoins the team amidst a challenging season marked by injuries to key players, including Maddy Siegrist last week. This move comes shortly after the Wings secured Monique Billings under a hardship contract following an injury to seasoned forward Natasha Howard. League rules mandate the termination of one hardship contract when a team has nine standard players available, and another when ten are fit to play.

Last year, Sims played 28 games for the Wings after initially signing a hardship exception on June 7, 2023. She later secured a standard contract for the remainder of the season on June 28. During this stint, she contributed off the bench with averages of 2.0 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 12.0 minutes per game. Over her illustrious 11-year career, Sims has posted averages of 11.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.

Odyssey Sims, who was picked second overall in the 2014 WNBA Draft by the Tulsa Shock and made the 2014 WNBA All-Rookie Team, had a previous tenure with the Dallas Wings in 2016, averaging 14 points and nearly four assists over 34 games. In 2019, she earned WNBA All-Star honors and was selected for the All-WNBA Second Team as a player for the Minnesota Lynx.

A standout at Baylor University, Sims was part of the 2012 National Championship-winning Baylor Bears Women’s Basketball team, which achieved a perfect 40-0 season.
