Washington Mystics Gave Seattle an Espresso Shot of Humility
Seattle Pulled Up too cool & Sykes Pulled Up Violent
The Washington Mystics defeated the Seattle Storm 74-69 in a game that felt like a knife fight in a Whole Foods parking lot. The Mystics walked into Seattle like they were fed up with overpriced coffee and tourist energy, and Brittney Sykes personally set fire to the fourth quarter.
Sykes went off and saved the day as she dropped 10 of her 19 points in the final frame, and every bucket sounded like “STFU” in jump shot form.
“All 4 Qs you got to bring the fight…if you want to play 40 minutes, let’s play 40 minutes.”
That’s not strategy.
That’s a verbal folding chair.
Seattle brought a yoga mat to a steel cage match. Ezi Magbegor played one of her best games of the season scoring 19 points and grabbing 7 rebounds while blocking two shots. Nneka Ogwumike also had a great game going for 16 points, two three pointers and six rebounds.
Also, shoutout to Tiffany Mitchell for randomly appearing on Seattle’s roster like she spawned in from NBA Street Vol. 2 and dropped 12 off the bench.
Kiki Iriafen Is Literally Built Like a Rookie Record
Meanwhile rookie and WNBA All-Star Kiki Iriafen dropped a prominent 10 points & 10 rebounds. This double-double marks her sixth of the season, which ties Chamique Holdsclaw for the franchise rookie record.
Translation: she’s not here to play nice.
Kiki’s here to take your rebounds and your recognition.
“She’s just a dog… had her head down and knew what she wants” said aaliyah edwards.
That’s Aaliyah Edwards. Translation: “Kiki’s been hooping like rent’s due and the lights are flickering.”
Sonia Citron: Surgeon General of Game Sealing
Additionally, another rookie WNBA All-Star also stepped up to the plate.
Sonia Citron as cool as the other side of the pillow iced the game with a 3-pointer and a layup during a 15–4 run, which might be illegal in six states.
Seattle got hit with a smooth combo meal. The entire shake, fries, and a bucket to the dome for the loss.
Meanwhile, Seattle’s newly named All-Star, Gabby Williams limped off the court with six points and 2-of-9 shooting. Send that stat line to the ER. Seattle shot 36% as a team and honestly, that feels generous.
“We just rely on our daily habits… we play for each other” said edwards.
Once again, Aaliyah said it best.
The Mystics clock in, play hard, and do it like they actually like each other. That alone makes them dangerous. Plus they’re on a 6-2 heater and rising like your Uber Eats bill.
The Sisterhood Is Too Strong for Your Feelings
Sydney Johnson should be in Coach of the Year conversations for the work he’s established in the nation’s capital.
Post game, Johnson sounded like a proud father at a his children’s graduation cookout.
“They’re mentally tough, physically tough… when one player does well they’re not thinking about themselves… it’s just a warm feeling.”
Honestly this team plays like every postgame hug comes with an Oprah speech and a Spotify playlist.
They’re unselfish, locked in, and giving “we’re gonna f*** around and win some games” energy.
“We’re on a good trajectory… we look game by game, practice by practice” said sykes.
That’s Sykes again, speaking like she just lit sage and burned every doubter’s receipt.
This isn’t a rebuild anymore. It’s a revenge tour.
